Some of the areas more popular species include: Red Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack, Trigger Fish, Cobia, Flounder. Much of the areas best spear fishing takes place over the fall and winter months, when the larger fish congregate in shallower water on closer wrecks and reefs.

Slipper Lobster and Spiny Lobster are found throughout the area, although hunters targeting "bugs" typically head for deeper "natural bottom " areas such as the timberholes or trysler grounds. Spiny lobsters are not as common in our area as they are further south and in the keys, but the ones normally encountered here are much bigger on average than their southern counterparts.

Regular Florida salt water fishing regulations apply to spear fishing activities, and we strongly support responsible conduct and strict adherence to the rules and regulations which govern our sport. Know your target, know the rules, and take only what you will eat.

DO NOT SHOOT THE GOLIATH GROUPER!
Goliath Grouper (Jewfish) have made a terrific comeback in our area, and large specimens of 200lbs or more are common on wrecks throughout the area. Goliath Grouper are protected, and are not to be harmed.

Don't Miss the annual Pensacola "Guns & Hoses" spearfishing tournament!
