Advanced Course

- MBT's Advanced Certification Course is designed to increase your experience and improve your individual skills as a diver.

During the Advanced open water course, you will complete a minimum of 6 dives, gaining experience in the following skills:

Deep Diving (to 130' max) -  Depths for the deep dives range from 80-130 feet.  The deep dives are done from a charter boat on one of the local dive sites.  Special emphasis is placed on the recognition of and appropriate actions to hazards that are generally unique to depths below 80 feet.

Wreck Diving (limited to exterior exploration)- Wreck dives are normally done in conjunction with the deep dives during a dive charter.  Wreck diving skills covered include navigation around a wreck site, recognition of unique hazards associated with wrecks, and unique marine life viewing opportunities encountered in and near wrecks.   Gloves and lights are strongly recommended.

Boat Diving -  Learn the best techniques for diving from the limited space of a boat, learn safe entry and exit skills, and learn how to properly set up and use safety equipment and lines.  Deck hand experience is available for those wishing to try it out.

Night / Limited Visibility Diving - probably one of the coolest things a diver can do!  Night dives are incredibly peaceful, and the marine life at night is incredible.  The lights that divers carry during a night dive illuminate the sponges and corals creating an explosion of color that can't be seen in daylight.  All divers are required to provide a primary and back up dive light and personal marker / light stick.

Underwater Navigation - We'll teach you a variety of ways to find your way around underwater, both with the aid of a compass and without.  We can't promise that you'll never get lost again, but the skills that we will teach you will help you find your way again when it does happen.  A minimum of one compass is required for each pair of divers.

Intro to Search and Recovery - Learn basic techniques of locating a new reef or finding that lost or missing item, and then learn how to safely mark it or bring it back up.  You'll learn the proper and safe way to use a divers reel and lift bag during search and recovery drills.  We provide the reels and lift bags.

As with all of the courses we offer, this fun and easy course can be tailored to fit your specific needs and schedule. The Advanced course is normally scheduled bi-weekly during the warmer months, and monthly over the winter.  Scheduling for the advanced class is very flexible, and it is often possible to get started with the class at just about any time.
